Column Dr. Marcelo Mella: Boric's Chile: strategic dilemma between pact and project

The result of the presidential elections of this Sunday, December 19 in Chile has shown that the transformative impulse represented by the progressive candidacy of Gabriel Boric has surpassed the restorationist rhetoric of the far-right José Antonio Kast; a relevant outcome considering the volatility of electoral results in recent years. After the social outburst of October 2019, the country had apparently entered, since the Agreement for a new Constitution (November 15, 2019), in a transforming institutional path ratified with the overwhelming triumph of the approved option in the plebiscite of entry to the constituent process (October 25, 2020) and, subsequently, in the election of constituent conventions (May 15 and 16, 2021) with a large majority of elected members committed to overcoming the Constitution inherited from the Pinochet dictatorship.
