PhD. MARCELO MELLA SUGGESTS THAT THE BORIC CABINET HAS "A NECESSARY CONFIGURATION AND A SENSIBLE COMPOSITION"

Political scientist and academic Usach Marcelo Mella considers that the cabinet recently appointed by President-elect Gabriel Boric has “a necessary configuration, it is a sensible composition. The signal of 14 women in the cabinet is very important, and that the expectation of renewal goes through a young cabinet”.

In dialogue with Sin Tacos Ni Corbata, he argued about the mix of ministers, that "for reasons that are obvious, he needs to increase the size of the parliamentary coalition supporting President Boric to have expectations of legislative effectiveness, to approach 50% , which can reach it, but it was essential to expand the cabinet. It is a practice typical of parliamentary systems to grow or strengthen the coalition in Congress after the president or prime minister has been elected”.

Mella also revealed “the signal that should reassure the markets between now and March, with the appointment of Mario Marcel, who is a name from the old Coalition, but which should be a transversal signal of confidence. Now, it is true that the ideological location of the Boric government means that it has a potentially bilateral opposition, from the social world to the left of the government and from the center to the right.
