Exit plebiscite in Chile and the 'October Country'

The resounding rejection of the proposal for a new constitutional text in the exit plebiscite in Chile, held last September 4, has been an unexpected event due to the magnitude of the defeat, and catastrophic due to its medium-term effects for the government of President Boric. The magnitude of the triumph of the Rejection option, close to 23 percentage points (Reject, 61.86% and Approve, 38.14%) surpassed all projections of previous weeks, in which the advantage was estimated at 10% and even less. This result also reveals the decline of the refoundational rhetoric emerged since the "Social Outburst" of October 2019, among the new generation of politicians of the Frente Amplio (FA) and the ruling bloc of Apruebo Dignidad (AD).
